MADONNA: new hits collection in September [2009]

Madonna Plans New Tracks For Hits Collection

Madonna is planning to head back into the studio to record new music for an upcoming greatest hits album, tentatively due in September.

Details on the project -- which will be her last album for Warner Bros. Records -- have yet to be finalized, says Madonna's longtime publicist Liz Rosenberg. However, she says that "all different options are being explored regarding packaging and content."

One of those options perhaps includes input from Madonna's fans on what tunes should be included on the album. Guy Oseary, the diva's manager, has posted missives to his Twitter account, soliciting suggestions from Madonna's devotees about what tracks "must be on" the album.

Madonna has released two previous best-ofs: 1990's "The Immaculate Collection" and 2001's "GHV2: Greatest Hits Volume 2." She also issued the ballads collection, "Something To Remember," in 1995. "Immaculate" is tied with Patsy Cline's "Greatest Hits" as the top-selling hits albums ever by a solo female in the U.S. -- both are certified at 10 million sold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In 2007, Madonna signed a long term, all-encompassing deal with Live Nation, which will include her future recorded music. Her last album owed to Warner Bros. is the forthcoming hits package.

Madonna signed to the Warner Bros. Records label Sire in 1982 and she released her first single, "Everybody," that year. Her eponymous debut album bowed in 1983.

Her most recent set, 2008's "Hard Candy," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 280,000. It has sold 714,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan.

I know this GH has been planned for a long time, but as far as I'm concerned, forget the new GH package and bring out Reinvention and Blond Ambition on DVD!!!

This will need to be 2 discs (maybe even 3 if they're being thorough). Also, no remixes unless the remix was the more popular version of the song. I hated some of the mixes they used on The Immaculate Collection, especially Like A Prayer.

I have to agree. "Frozen" was a pretty good track and "Beautiful Stranger" is my favorite song of hers. The latter is actually the only Madonna material I own. (I bought the CD single).

I stopped listening to Madonna in 1993, then got into her again around the time of Ray of Light. That is just about the most amazing song I've ever heard. I also like "Jump" from Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Madonna's 'Celebration' Hits Collection To Feature Two New Songs

Madonna will unleash the greatest hits album "Celebration" on Sept. 29 in the U.S.

The Warner Bros. collection will include hits from the Queen of Pop's entire career and boast two new songs. One of those, the title track, was recently recorded in New York and co-produced by Madonna and Paul Oakenfold. It will serve as the set's first single and is scheduled to hit radio airwaves on Aug. 3. Remixes of the tune will be serviced to dance club DJs tomorrow (July 24).

It is rumored that the effort's other new song is titled "Revolver" and is a collaboration with Lil Wayne. A demo version of the song -- without Madonna's vocals -- has been floating around YouTube since May.

While the tracklist for "Celebration" has yet to be announced, one can imagine a bevy of Madonna's Billboard Hot 100 hits will be included. On the Hot 100 chart, she has racked up a record 37 top 10 singles -- more than any other act in the tally's nearly 51-year history. Of those hits, 12 of them went all the way to No. 1.

In a press release, her label confirmed that "Celebration" will contain songs "remastered and selected by Madonna and her fans" including "Everybody," "Express Yourself," "Vogue" and "4 Minutes."

The album will be available in both single-disc and double-disc configurations and a DVD of the icon's music videos will also be issued simultaneously. It was unclear at press time if the DVD would be offered as a stand-alone product or come bundled in a CD/DVD package.

The press release announcing "Celebration" touts that the DVD is set to include some of Madonna's iconic video clips that have "never before been available on DVD." (Perhaps the too-hot-for-MTV "Justify My Love?")

"Celebration" is Madonna's last album owed to Warner Bros. Records. In 2007, she partnered with Live Nation for a long term, all-encompassing deal, which will include her future recorded music.

Madonna signed to the Warner Bros. label Sire in 1982 and released her first single, "Everybody," that year. Her eponymous debut album bowed in 1983 and carried with it her first Hot 100 hit -- "Holiday."

Since then has earned seven No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, including her last four studio sets: 2008's "Hard Candy," 2005's "Confessions On a Dance Floor," 2003's "American Life" and 2000's "Music."

All told, every one of Madonna's 11 studio albums have reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200.

"Celebration" is a freaking awesome song! I've heard the Oakenfold dub, a clip of the original track, and another remix of it (which is killer), and it's classic Madonna. That remix I heard has a killer bass line! I can't wait to get this collection, and the remixes of "Celebration".

Hopefully this set will include "Who's That Girl", "Causing A Commotion" and "Ray Of Light" if so i'm in for a copy, already have "The Immaculate Collection" and "Something To Remember" if those three songs i mentioned are on the new one that would be all the Music i would need to satisfy my need for Madge, oh and my favorite song by her is "I'll Remember" from the With Honors soundtrack.

WTG and CAC should have been on the Immaculate Collection. I'm doubting those tracks will be on this collection because I'm betting the tracks will be songs after GHV2.

This collection is to span her entire career. Not just songs she has put out since GHV2.

Agreed. If all the original versions are included in this set then I will be picking it up. I'm not a fan of The Immaculate Collection.

Re: MADONNA: new hits collection in September [2009]

From Madonna.com:

July 22, 2009
A “Celebration” Of Madonna Music - The Definitive Greatest Hits Collection September 28/29 Release
July 23, 2009 - For Immediate Release (Burbank, California) - Madonna, who has racked up a record 37 top 10 hits as well as seven No. 1 albums (including her last four) on the Billboard Pop Charts, has given her fans yet another opportunity to “celebrate” her musical achievements. Today, Warner Bros. Records officially confirmed the September 29th release in the U.S. (September 28 outside U.S.) of “CELEBRATION” – the ultimate compilation of Madonna songs. The songs on “Celebration” have all been remastered and selected by Madonna and her fans. They cover the expanse of the Material Girl’s extraordinary career of hits including “Everybody,” “Express Yourself,” “Vogue” and “4 Minutes.” “Celebration” will be available in a two-CD set as well as a single CD. There will also be a “Celebration” DVD released simultaneously which includes the video visionary’s best videos including several that have never before been available on DVD.

“Celebration,” the CD will also include two new songs that were recently recorded in New York City. The first single, also titled, “Celebration,” co-produced by Madonna and Paul Oakenfold, will be released August 3rd. A video for the single, which will be included on the “Celebration” DVD was just filmed in Milan, Italy and was directed by long time Madonna collaborator Jonas (“Ray of Light”) Akerlund. Several dance club remixes of “Celebration” are already headed to the clubs. The song will also be available on CD and vinyl maxi. Radio will receive the “Celebration” single on August 3rd.

The cover for “Celebration” was created by street pop artist “Mr. Brainwash” who is best known for “throwing modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven.” (A copy of the cover image of the “Celebration” CDs and DVDs is attached)

Madonna, a multi Grammy award winning singer, writer and producer has had over 12 No. 1 singles and has a record-smashing 39 No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs Chart – by far the most of any artist in the over 30 year history of the list.

Re: MADONNA: new hits collection in September [2009]

I own absolutely no Madonna. But I am interested to see what the tracklist is, as there are definitely some earlier songs of hers I'd like to own, but in their original form, so The Immaculate Collection wouldn't cut it. I'm particularly interested in "Borderline", "Into The Groove", "Open Your Heart" and "Like A Prayer", so perhaps the 2-CD set will end up being the way to go.

Re: MADONNA: new hits collection in September [2009]

I'm not a fan of the CD cover. If this is a celebration of her music career, she should have had Patrick Leonard, Nile Rodgers, Shep Pettibone, or even Jellybean collaborate on the new cuts. Afterall, they are the guys that truly helped put her on the map.

September looks to be Diva month with Whitney's long awaited new album, Mariah's new album and this one from Madonna.

wow - sounds better than almost anything on "Hard Candy"! (and I'm actually a fan of a lot of that disc)... this should have been the follow up to the wonderful "Confessions" album!

Yes, a little 80's and early 90's thrown in. I actually like the remix version I've heard, that really has a great bass line thrown in. It's actually supposed to be used in the video. I just hope we get a release of the remix I've heard, because it's really one of the best remixes of one of her songs I've ever heard.

The single, "Celebration" is available to purchase as an MP3 from Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Celebration-Al...20904&sr=102-1

I'm absolutely loving this song! It's so fun, has a great vibe to it, and reminds me of early Madonna. I can't wait for the remixes!
